for whom the bell tolls

Stapelia leendertziae. This intriguing succulent from South Africa has the unfortunate habit of smelling like rotting meat. This is a boon for the pollinator, a brute, but not so pleasant for the horticulturist, who much prefers spending his earthbound time reading Hemingway, under the intense fragrance of a frangipani tree.
